{blue like jazz :: the movie}

one of my all time favorite books, blue like jazz
has been made into a movie and it releases today.
yes today.
not only is the book a wonderful story, the story of blue like jazz :: the movie and how it came to be is a fabulous one.  a hard one, but a goodie.  the short version is... they set out to make the movie, the recession hit, they "failed" as the money wasn't there.  two young guys from TN who had really been affected by donald miller's book, blue like jazz refused to let the "failing" happen so they set out to "save blue like jazz"...

insert kickstarter and add in all the rest of the people who did not want BLJ to "fail"
we all gave (a whopping total of $345,992) and the movie happened.
obvi.  it comes out today.

i say it's a must see.
"why?" you ask...
my question is "why not?"
it might just change how you look at Jesus...
see if it's playing in a theater near you this weekend and go see it.

{save blue like jazz the movie}

in 2006 this book by donald miller changed me...
in 2010 this book by donald miller change me again and
told me that blue like jazz was being made into a movie...
i was ecstatic.
then on september 16th donald miller announced on his blog that the production of blue like jazz the movie has been halted due to funding issues.  it pains me to think that this message get the opportunity to reach an audience of movie watchers so i was elated when i saw this...

what is it you ask?  it's a grassroots movement to get this movie funded by all those who have been blessed by donald miller's words.  i've backed it.  will you?  what's $10 really?
and if you haven't read either of these books, i highly recommend you do.  just don't say i didn't warn you, you might be changed... for the better.

love happens

last friday night i decided to fly solo to see "love happens" with jennifer aniston as "eloise" & aaron eckhart playing "burke".

friday had been just "one of those days." ...one of those "single lady"days & i don't mean the beyonce "single ladies" kind of days. the day had been extremely overwhelming work wise & my mind was completely distracted all day. i couldn't get it to focus or cooperate... most of the day i kept thinking "crap... i'm getting older annnnnd i'm still single." all day i was pushing that out of my mind, but in true form to that nasty little thought that just won't go away, it kept creeping back in.... i decided after i left work that i just needed a little get away into the movie world for a little "chick flick"... if you will :)

"love happens" was just what i needed. i laughed, i cried, & ultimately realized that in God's time, regardless of my circumstances & where life might take me ... i have 100% faith that love will happen for me & i truly believe that!!

the circumstances & paths of life for both "burke" & "eloise" were not by any means ideal for a relationship or love to develop, but it did just that. from their initial encounter, their exchange was awkward, yet there was just something there that began drawing each of them in. there was still hurt & pain in both of their lives, but over the movie (& i know it's just a movie) they both began to be themselves, began to feel feelings again that they had both shut out the possibility of feeling.

it was a great reminder that regardless of where we might think we are in life & how life should be playing out before us... that life happens. it's not always pretty & it's not always fun. we laugh, but we also cry. we take the good with the bad. life happens folks and... love happens ... and it's not by accident. we have a big God that loves us & He's going to use all the circumstances in our lives, good or bad, to show us just that... His big, unfailing love.

books AND movies

i like books AND movies.

in light of the holiday book to movie extravaganza,
i started reading marley & me on the way
to NYC last week & then i finally gave in to see
what the hype of twilight is all about in the
weak moments of "flight delay world"
sunday night, sitting at laguardia.

so now i'm reading both.

both very different, but so far i've enjoyed them.
hopefully i don't end up with some crazy story
in my head of vampires attacking labrador retrievers...
now THAT would be interesting.
no wait... that would be awful!

once i'm done... i'm headed to the movies too!

which do you like better... books or a movie based on the book?
